Business broadband is a way of life nowadays, with very few (if any) serious businesses still using dial up.
There are several types of connection. They are:
* Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)
* Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL), and
* Leased Line
ADSL is fine for residential users, who generally do not have much in the way of upload requirement. An ADSL line downloads at reasonable speeds (or capacity, depending on how you look at it), but uploads at about 10% of that (hence the ‘asymmetry’). SDSL has a much higher upload speed, but because the download speed is the same (‘symmetry’), it is slower than ADSL. Both SDSL speeds are reasonable for small to medium-sized businesses. Leased lines have far greater upload and download speeds, but cost a lot more.
If you run a business, there is no longer any question regarding whether to have broadband or not, but rather, how fast can it go. Speeds range from a measly 64kB to a peak of 2mB. There are a number of 2mB leased line providers in the market. One, Vaioni, is offering 2mB at an expensive monthly cost, but is justifying this with 99.95% SLA, virtually guaranteeing the speed.
So whatever you require, make sure you do your homework. There are many broadband providers in the market, so being well informed will help you make the right decision.
